Du’aa and its Method

Endeavour to call on Allah in the best manner.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once heard a person making du’ā’ during prayer. He did not glorify Allah nor invoke salawāt upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “He was too hasty.”

He ﷺ called him and said, “When one of you makes du’ā’, he should start off with praising and glorifying His Lord, and should then invoke salawāt on the Prophet. He should then make du’ā’ for whatever he wishes.”
— Abū Dāwūd

The Five Steps of Du’ā’

🤲 Step 1 — Praise Allah SWT
Begin by glorifying and praising your Lord.

🙏 Step 2 — Send Salutations
Invoke salawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ.

Step 3 — Ask Allah by His Beautiful Names
Call upon Him using the names that fit your need.

🔄 Step 4 — Seek Forgiveness
Purify your heart before you ask.

💫 Step 5 — Display Your Utter Need
Make du’ā’ from the depths of your heart with humility, desperation, and dependency. Have yaqeen (firm conviction) that Allah will answer.

“The best and most beneficial dhikr is when one remembers Allah with the tongue and the heart, it is from the Sunnah adhkār, and one is conscious of its meaning and its purpose.”
— Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ
