The most powerful night of the entire year is approaching. One night that carries more reward than 1,000 months of worship. Are you ready?
What is Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr — the Night of Power, the Night of Decree — is the single most significant night in the Islamic calendar. It was on this night that the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the Angel Jibreel (AS), forever changing the course of human history.
Allah ﷻ describes this night in Surah Al-Qadr:
“Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
— Quran 97:1-5
Let that sink in. Better than a thousand months. That’s over 83 years of worship compressed into a single night. Every prayer, every dhikr, every tear shed in sincerity — multiplied beyond comprehension.
When is Laylatul Qadr?
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Search for Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari 2017
The odd nights — the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th of Ramadan — are where you focus your energy. While many scholars emphasise the 27th night based on various narrations, the wisdom in keeping it hidden is powerful: it pushes us to strive throughout the entire last ten days, not just one.
The Prophet ﷺ would tighten his belt, stay up all night, and wake his family during these final ten nights. If that was his ﷺ level of urgency, where should ours be?
Signs of Laylatul Qadr
The Prophet ﷺ described the morning after Laylatul Qadr:
“The sun rises on the morning following it with no rays, as if it were a brass dish, until it rises fully.”
— Sahih Muslim 762
Other narrations describe the night as:
- 🌙 Calm and serene — neither excessively hot nor cold
- ✨ Bright and luminous — the moon shines with a gentle glow
- 🕊️ Peaceful — a deep sense of tranquility fills the atmosphere
- ☀️ The sunrise after — the sun rises without sharp rays, appearing white and soft
But here’s the thing — don’t wait to identify the signs. Worship with full intensity on every odd night. If it turns out to be Laylatul Qadr, you’ve captured it. If not, you’ve still earned immense reward.
How to Maximise Laylatul Qadr
1. The Dua That Covers Everything
Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet ﷺ what she should say if she finds Laylatul Qadr. He ﷺ replied:
“Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni”
“O Allah, You are the Pardoner, You love to pardon, so pardon me.”
— Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3513
This dua is your anchor for the entire night. Repeat it in your sujood, between prayers, while sitting — let it flow from your heart constantly.
2. Pray Tahajjud with Intention
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever stands in prayer during Laylatul Qadr out of faith and seeking reward, all their previous sins will be forgiven.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari 1901
Quality over quantity. Two rakahs prayed with deep focus, tears, and genuine connection are worth more than twenty rakahs rushed through mechanically. Take your time. Feel every word. Let the Quran wash over you.
3. Recite and Reflect on the Quran
This is the night the Quran was revealed. There’s no better time to connect with it. Read with a translation open beside you. Pause on verses that strike your heart. Let the words penetrate — this isn’t a speed reading exercise.
4. Make Your Personal Dua List
Write down everything you want to ask Allah for — everything. Your health, your family, your career, your akhirah, the Ummah, those who are suffering. On this night, no ask is too big. The One who created the heavens and the earth is listening, and He loves to give.
5. Give Charity
Set up automatic donations across the last ten nights so that whichever night is Laylatul Qadr, your charity lands on it. Even a small amount given on this night is multiplied as if you gave it consistently for over 83 years.
6. Dhikr — Let Your Tongue Stay Moist
SubhanAllah. Alhamdulillah. Allahu Akbar. La ilaha illallah. Astaghfirullah.
Fill every gap between prayers with remembrance of Allah. Walking to the kitchen? Dhikr. Waiting for iftar? Dhikr. Can’t sleep? Dhikr. Use the Dhikr app to track your count and build consistency — every tap is a seed planted for your akhirah.
A Night That Changes Everything
Think about this: there are people who caught Laylatul Qadr last year and their entire life trajectory changed. Doors opened. Hearts healed. Sins erased. Duas accepted years later that were made in the quiet hours of that single night.
You don’t need to be a scholar. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to show up — broken, hopeful, sincere. Allah ﷻ doesn’t look at your perfection. He looks at your heart.
“Allah extends His Hand during the night so that the sinners of the day may repent, and He extends His Hand during the day so that the sinners of the night may repent.”
— Sahih Muslim 2759
This is your night. Don’t let it pass you by.
